Erbil Tezcan & Andrea Pahl
Wool & Silk has taken the carpet world by storm, winning five top design awards since launching their company, Wool & Silk, in 2009. It has been the passion, love and hard work which created this winning combination for the Turkish born artist, Erbil Tezcan and his partner Andrea Pahl.
Starting with just a truck and a limited number of his designs, Erbil started this company by driving across the country visiting retailers and design showrooms for which he thought would be a good fit. Many agreed to give him five minutes of their time, two hours later most were smitten with his beautiful, colorful designs and with the passionate designer himself. “I didn’t even have a showroom, just a desire and a dream”, remembers Erbil.
The name of the company points to that which, along with the exquisite designs, sets their carpets apart from the rest. Wool & Silk developed their own unique texture composed of a Tibetan wool and silk blend. To do this they use a special process that Erbil created. For the 2012 NY Rug Show, Erbil introduced his Fall line with his newest texture, a blend of silk, wool and yak hair – with tremendous success.

With influences from Asian tapestries to modern architectural framework, there is nothing conventional about these designs. The company is constantly evolving and moving in new directions. The majority of the collections are manufactured in Nepal; however, he recently introduced the Afghan Collection which is being manufactured in Afghanistan. While most of the designs manufactured in Nepal are contemporary in nature, the Afghan Collection focuses on a tribute to traditional designs, which is Tezcan’s first love.
Award Winning Rugs
In January 2012, Erbil exhibited his carpets for the first time at the Domotex Trade Show in Hannover, Germany. His carpet, Reflection - Sky, won first place for the Best Modern Design Deluxe award.
At Domotex 2013, he continued the tradition, this time garnering highest honors in two categories: Best Collection Modern and Best Modern Design Superior.
At Domotex 2014 he was a finalist in three categories and his Manhattan Collection won in the category of Best Collection Modern.
At Domotex 2015 he was a finalist in the category of best Traditional Design and his Steppe Collection won for Best Modern Collection.
The heart of Wool & Silk comes from the spirit and commitment of its founder, Erbil Tezcan and Andrea Pahl. With both national and international customers, their love of design, color and knowledge of the hand knotted rug industry has proven to be a successful formula. A glimpse of life or a flash of light is a basis for envisioning a rug. Erbil’s reflection of the creative process is captured in his remark that his designs “have to be colorful, like our lives”.
Andrea and Erbil have been working with The Scarab since 2014. “Both the Afghan Collection and the Tibetan carpets, are extraordinary in texture and design. They have been well received by the public and our interior design community here in Colorado”, says owner Larry Stone.
